Family Values
Married 48 years to her high school sweetheart, Maureen is the mother of two adult daughters who are successful professionals and active volunteers in their own right. Both are graduates of excellent universities which, like their mother, they attended on scholarship. Both were NCAA Division One athletes and honor students. Older daughter Kerry York is a proud homeowner in Anne Arundel County. Younger daughter Christine is an attorney in Charlotte, North Carolina but returns home for regular visits and is an active “long distance” campaign worker. The Maryland members of the family are active members of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Parish. Work Values Maureen lost her father at age 13 and was self-supporting from the time she started college at the age of 17. Through employment, scholarships and loans, she worked her way through college and law school and supported her husband Jim through 10 years of medical school and residency. Through thrift and hard work, Maureen and Jim have achieved their professional goals. They are very aware of the challenges faced by families, businesses and employers in Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland as they have dealt with increasing regulation, taxes and expense in maintaining Jim’s medical practice. Patriotic Values Maureen and Jim are proud of Jim’s service to our country as an officer in the United States Army. They first came to Anne Arundel County when Jim was assigned to Kimbrough Army Hospital at Fort Meade as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery. Jim achieved the rank of Major and it was when he completed his military service in 1988 that they moved to Severna Park and settled in to raise their family. Educational values Maureen holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America and a law degree from Georgetown University. She has fought for quality education for all students through her work as a member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education and as a community activist for our schools. Community Values Maureen has been an active volunteer in every aspect of life in our community for the past 30 years. |
