Real Values, Real Experience, Real Commitment
Experience Counts
Education Maureen started volunteering in her daughters’ schools from first grade on. Maureen served as a classroom volunteer, as a PTA activist, as member and Chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee, as active fundraiser, and ultimately as a Member of the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County. Both her daughters graduated with honors from Severna Park High School and yes, Maureen was still volunteering at the senior class prom breakfast. But her efforts were not confined to the Severna Park schools. One of Maureen’s proudest achievements as a Member of the Board of Education was the funding of an expansion for Broadneck High School which enabled, for the first time, the 9th grade to attend Broadneck High rather than Severn River Junior High. It took an ardent lobbying effort in concert with parent activists from all over the Broadneck Peninsula, coupled with creative use of available funding, to achieve the goal of bringing the full high school experience to Broadneck. When Maureen was told it couldn’t be done, she worked with other concerned individuals and groups and created the way to achieve the goal. Maureen also championed school renovations or replacements at Park ES, Deale ES, Meade Heights ES, Meade Middle School and many other schools. The overcrowding and deplorable conditions at Belvedere Elementary School also drew Maureen’s attention, and she capped off her 5th year of service on the Board of Education with securing funding for a full renovation and addition for that school and for Jones Elementary School as well. Maureen has served as a member of the Executive Board of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education and as a member of the National School Boards Association and their Federal Relations Network. |
