Education

Maureen’s experience in the field of public education is second to none. Her five year tenure, from 1991-1996, as a Member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education, gave her the insight and know-how to effectively and efficiently make improvements to area schools.
Here are some of her proudest accomplishments:
As a member of the Board of Education, Maureen worked with the County Council and County Executive to design and fund a program that would provide nursing services to the entire school population.
What began as hands-on volunteering in her two daughters’ classrooms at Benfield Elementary, then as a member of the PTA and as Chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), Maureen’s involvement ultimately led her to become a member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education.
Serving as a member of the Executive Board of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, Maureen played an important role in education policy for the state of Maryland.
As a member of the Federal Relations Network of the National School Boards Association, she took the experience of local Boards of Education to the halls of Congress and addressed federal policies concerning our schools.
Here are some of her proudest accomplishments:
- Expanding Broadneck High School to include 9th grade students who were previously housed at Severn River Junior High.
- Securing funding for full renovations and additions to both Jones and Belvedere Elementary schools.
- Bringing a close to "open classrooms" at Folger McKinsey Elementary and Oak Hill Elementary.
